Russia's 2026 Entertainment Industry Professionals Forum assembled prominent players from the country's leisure and nightlife industries. Held from September 21 to 26, it ran alongside NATMALL, the premier exhibition dedicated to commercial real estate and entertainment infrastructure, held on September 22. As industry leaders discussed the future of a Russian leisure market that hit 2.78 trillion rubles in 2025, analysts are taking a closer look at the business structures behind some of the best-known nightclub brands in Moscow.

Mikhail Danilov

Behind places such as Gipsy, Icon, Mutabor and Mix Afterparty is a complicated web of businesses tied to one of the veteran entrepreneurs of the Russian entertainment industry. Mikhail Vladimirovich Danilov built his fortune in the tobacco business in the 1990s, expanding his company, Biznes-Tabak, into a retail chain with hundreds of points of sale and revenue of as much as $200 million by the mid-2000s. After selling the tobacco business, he shifted his focus to nightlife.

Via the holding company Sagrado Corp., the Danilov family built an extensive network of nightlife venues in Moscow covering over two dozen locations. These have featured the legendary Rai, alongside Icon, Gipsy, Mutabor and Mix Afterparty. Mutabor attracted widespread attention in the wake of a series of high-profile events. The venue was subsequently rebranded as Arma and later announced its closure.

Talking about the size of his operations in an interview with Forbes Russia, Danilov pointed to Stadium Live as the company's flagship venue: "Stadium Live, which mostly hosts club-rock events, holds up to 7,500 people. I think this venue will be number one in Moscow this autumn both regarding the caliber of performers playing there and the number of concerts — we are planning no fewer than 20 events a month." He also portrayed himself as deeply immersed in the music scene: "I truly love techno music, I go with great pleasure to our DJ imports at Insomnia, I personally know many artists and DJs."

The majority of legal entities linked to the holding company are registered under the name of Danilov's daughter, Maria, rather than Danilov himself. She is registered as the owner and director of a considerable portion of the businesses. Industry observers describe the arrangement a conventional model of family business succession: the founder remains the central strategic figure while the next generation step by step takes on legal ownership and day-to-day management of the nightclub assets.

As the Russian entertainment industry responds to evolving consumer habits and regulatory shifts, the forum provided both a tribute to the sector's resilience and a reminder of the intricate ownership structures that have formed Moscow nightlife for decades.
